Our Neighbors ...
Wallgau is the gateway to the Isarwinkel and, like Mittenwald, belongs to the Werdenfels region. From here, a toll road leads to a vast nature reserve, Vorderriß, whose natural beauty was appreciated by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria.
From there, excursions to the famous Ahornboden (maple plateau) and Engalm, the oldest managed alpine pasture in the region, are worthwhile. Another attraction is the Silvensteinstausee, an important reservoir for the region. The local poet Ludwig Ganghofer brought his famous character Jäger von Fall to life in this setting.
Hike from Mittenwald along the high trail to Krün.
Pass blooming alpine meadows adorned with gentians and take a break at the chapel Maria Rast along the way.
Visit the Rococo church of St. Sebastian or take a leisurely stroll through the wide valley to Barmsee, Grubsee, or Geroldsee.
